Job Purpose

The Victim Advocate supports the agency by providing hope and healing to those impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault by providing direct client services.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities

Client Care

Using trauma-informed, client-centered approach:

  • Welcome new residents to the Shelter, introducing residents to other staff and help residents understand Shelter policies.
  • Refer clients to community resources; including housing, education and employment opportunities.
  • Assist clients with developing goals and identifying areas of need.
  • Coordinate and provide care that is safe, timely, efficient, equitable, and client-centered.
  • Support effective delivery of services through crisis intervention, safety planning, assessing client needs, and support groups.
  • Document case information and complete all necessary forms accurately and timely.
  • Develop and deliver psycho-educational, life skills/social skills, and supportive groups, varying content to respond to residents' identified needs.
  • Consistently role-model appropriate behaviors, emotions, and communication skills by demonstrating effective approaches to anger management, conflict, resolution, and problem-solving, and work with residents to teach skills necessary to function in a community living environment.
  • Assist with resolving residential conflict and maintain a safe environment while using trauma-informed practices.
  • Engage in all duties needed to maintain the health and welfare of all clients.
  • Act with clients in mind and work to meet client needs and expectations to the fullest extent possible.
  • Provide crisis intervention services by telephone or in person as necessary including responding to hotline calls.

Administration

  • Maintain accurate, up to date client, program and agency records, including case tracking.
  • Research, write and manage grant reporting and grantor relationships, as assigned by supervisor.
  • Adhere to agency procedures concerning Documentation, Critical Incident Reports and Client Satisfaction surveys and participate in the Quality Assurance process

Stewardship

  • Increase community awareness of victimization, prevention, and available resources through public speaking and media requests as assigned by supervisor.
  • Support agency mission by participating in agency and community meetings and committees as requested by supervisor.
  • Work to ensure goals and outcomes for program are met.
  • Promote and maintains professional relationships with agency staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Facilitate volunteers through training, scheduling and support as needed.

Professional Development

  • Contribute to quality services by staying informed of developments and trends in the area of trauma and victimization, especially as it relates to intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and child maltreatment.
  • Maintain and develop skills and knowledge by attending training, especially as it relates to victimization and trauma; ensure licensure and certifications are up to date as needed for the job.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education; Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience; 2 years

Preferences

  • Master's Degree preferred
  • Experience working with victims
  • Experience in human services
  • Spanish speaking preferred- If hired as a Spanish speaking candidate, employee must be fluent in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish.
