Medical Interpreter Job Purpose

Provides support to NFP nurses through professional interpretation services between Spanish and English.

Basic Job Functions

  • Assist NFP nurses in delivering patient care through providing interpretation services for Spanish-speaking clients.
  • Plans daily schedule and executes plan effectively.
  • Participates in community outreach as needed by distributing marketing materials, and providing information on NFP and other agency programs.
  • Provides clear, accurate interpreting services for clients, families, and staff in a warm and gracious manner.
  • Maintains confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA regulations while staying empathetic and supportive.
  • Bridges any communication and cultural barriers between non-English speaking patients and NFP nurses.
  • Works with NFP Supervisors to assist with efficient utilization of medical interpreter services.
  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with staff members and clients.
  • Assesses and comprehends original message and renders it in Spanish without omissions, additions or distortions.
  • Interprets between nurse and client conveying clarity, tone, and style from one language into another.
  • Provide administrative support as needed such as filing, telephones, scanning, and data entry.

Minimum Requirements

  • The Covid-19 vaccination is required as a condition of employment
  • Bilingual - Spanish fluency required
  • High School or equivalent required
  • Computer literacy including email, word processing, and spreadsheet
  • Be a self-starter, able to multitask independently, and exercise sound judgment and decision making
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • Possess excellent organizational skills
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends
  • Previous experience interpreting in a medical setting preferred
