Position Description

The Community Advocate Navigator (CAN) will seek, foster, and strengthen relationships with neighbors and partners of Renaissance West Community Initiative. The CAN will speaks up for a person, or for an issue that needs a champion. Through advocacy efforts the CAN will begin to promote and further equity by integrating strategies that address identified social and community needs and disparities by creating partnerships between neighborhoods and the larger community to create fairer, healthier, and more supportive environments. The CAN will work directly with the Neighborhood Engagement Officer, and Building Uplifted Families Project Manager.  While many outcomes will be related to those socioeconomic factors, the ultimate measures of success will the increase in participation of residents to workshops, and appropriate programs.  The position requires strong interpersonal skills to make connections and build relationships with the community. The CAN will work within their own community to build the capacity of individuals, families and the broader neighborhood community to advocate on their own and attain collective outcomes.

Position Responsibilities

  • Maintain Confidentiality at all times
  • Willingness to participate in leadership and community development training
  • Reports to and works with assigned Life Navigator (LN) & Project Manager as necessary & appropriate to fulfill the expectations of the position.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of the community engagement strategies of RWCI
  • Makes referrals to LN and Community Health Nurses (CHN), and other partners as appropriate
  • Promotes community/resident and partnership participation
  • Participates and contributes to the work of the research team; attends regular research team meetings, as appropriate, participates in collecting data as needed.
  • Builds and maintains constructive and effective relationships with residents, team, and partners to achieve the objectives of the project plan.
  • Evaluates and monitors work, and engagement activities to ensure consistency with expectations
  • Prepares bi-weekly status reports to facilitate review and monitoring of critical issues
  • Develops clear, concise progress notes of the engagement to include all activities, referrals, and contacts made
  • Responsible for contributing to and submitting all quarterly reports, & progress reports as expected
  • Responsible for planning and facilitating all community Pop-ups and other community engagement events as needed.
  • Responsible for supporting Neighborhood Engagement Officer (NEO) efforts
  • Work with members of the Resident Engagement Street Team on projects, and neighborhood strategies as appropriate
  • Maintain works schedule as appropriate, and communicate changes to Project Manager when necessary

Position Requirements

  • Must live in either Little Rock or The Renaissance Communities
  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • 1-2 years related experience
