Care Ring - Medical Assistant

Care Ring, a nonprofit located in uptown Charlotte, is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team.

JOB PURPOSE

Provides clinical support to patients and providers by interviewing patient; confirming purpose of visit. Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; and assisting provider with any needs necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with all general clerical duties, including but not limited to:

  • Answers calls, returns calls and transfers callers to appropriate program representatives.
  • Manages patient messages and informs to the providers and provides follow up with patient
  • Document all activities, vitals and patient interactions in Epic
  • Contacts patients with lab results/prescriptions
  • If appropriate mails lab results to clients or calls for clients to pick up
  • Operates standard office equipment including but not limited to fax machine, copier, and computer.
  • Keeps clinic area orderly/clean.
  • Orders, receives and distributes medical supplies.
  • Makes copies or faxes forms as needed. Assists with incoming and outgoing mail, as needed.
  • Provides bi-lingual interpretation services as needed. Payroll

Assist with clinical duties, including but not limited to:

  • Obtains vital signs i.e. height, weight, blood pressure, temperature and pulse, and documents appropriately in medical records.
  • Assists with and prepares clients for physical examinations, procedures, and treatments. Draws blood, administers PPDs, provides immunizations, screening tests, and client counseling/education. Collects specimens (i.e. urinalysis).
  • Is aware of client's progress and goals as demonstrated by documentation in the medical records and reports same to the Provider. Communicates with the appropriate clinical staff on the status of the client if a significant change has occurred, per Care Ring protocol.
  • Collaborates with the Provider to provide continuity of care for clients.
  • Reinforces client instructions using therapeutic techniques based on individual client needs and disability.
  • Actively researches and maintains information regarding community resources for client referral. Provides resources and encourages the establishment of a medical home for all clients.
  • Applies principals of aseptic techniques.
  • Prepares and maintains examination areas and lab. Maintains a safe, clean and organized workspace.
  • Utilizes equipment/devices specific to clients' needs and calibrates equipment as needed/required.

At all times:

  • Interacts with clients in a respectful manner, uses discretion, and respects client confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills (oral and written), listening skills and strong customer service skills.
  • Maintains a positive attitude under normal and stressful conditions.
  • Performs other duties and fills in for administrative staff as requested by the COO.
  • Recognizes and responds to emergencies.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA). Will consider formalized training in one of the following areas: completion of an Accredited Medical Assistant program; graduate of an accredited RN program, board-eligible, non-licensed or EMT or Paramedic program; or structured military training which is clinical in nature per DD214.

Experience

  • Verifiable clinical work experience required.

Certification

  • BCLS current

Knowledge and Skills

  • English/Spanish fluency required
  • Computer literacy including Outlook calendar, email, word processing, spreadsheet, database and operating system software programs
  • Computer capability to enter data, research and create educational materials as needed
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA requirements
  • Be a self-starter, responsive, able to multitask independently, and exercise sound judgment and decision making
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • Possess excellent organizational skills
