The Renaissance West Community Initiative (RWCI) Development Officer will play an important role by providing support to the Chief Development Officer and RWCI Staff in leading the fundraising activities of the organization.

About Renaissance West Community Initiative

RWCI is leading the revitalization of a neighborhood in the West Boulevard corridor of Charlotte, NC. The organization is working to improve economic mobility and end intergenerational poverty through a holistic approach that is based on the Purpose Built Communities model. The initiative includes a simultaneous focus on mixed-income housing, a cradle-to-career education continuum, and supportive services for children and families. RWCI is a comprehensive neighborhood revitalization effort and represents an opportunity for resurgence in what was once one of Charlotte's most economically challenge neighborhoods.

Position Description

The Development Officer reports to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and will have the following primary responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with development team members to develop an annual fund development plan for the organization
  • Provide staff support to CDO, CEO, volunteers and committees as needed/assigned
  • Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects
  • Conduct research on prospective foundation, corporate, and individual donors
  • Collaborate on strategy for cultivating and stewarding donors
  • Write funding proposals to prospects
  • Participate in grant-writing and manage grant submission and reporting activities as needed
  • Work with RWCI colleagues to understand and communicate organizational data
  • Manage the creation of monthly fundraising reports and other database functions
  • Manage thank you letters and donor acknowledgments
  • Assure the maintenance of foundation, corporate, and individual donor files
  • Manage the preparation of call sheets for donor prospect meetings
  • Assure the proper assembly of donor kits for events and meetings
  • Assure the proper processing of donations and preparation of acknowledgement letters and correspondence
  • Assure the proper management of the donor database
  • Work with the CEO, CDO and Fund Development Staff to answer donor questions related to their gifts
  • Ensure that donors are added to mailing and email lists
  • Work as part of the team on special events - assure the proper maintenance of guest lists, assure the proper management of registration materials, and other duties as assigned for fundraising events and activities
  • Assist development department and organization in other duties as assigned and needed to fulfill RWCI's mission and vision

Qualifications

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual with non-profit development experience to continue building RWCI's fundraising capacity. Applicants must have relevant fundraising/donor relations experience. The Ideal candidate will also demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively across stakeholder groups to achieve an ambitious set of goals.

  • BA required, CFRE plus
  • At least 5 years of fund development experience, with a proven track record of success securing major gifts
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge donor database
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to be flexible according to the needs of the organization and department
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for Renaissance West Community Initiative's mission
  • Intermediate to Advanced technical skill, demonstrated experience and proficiency in managing fundraising databases and in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
  • Flexible schedule in support of fundraising and other organizational events and activities
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments and in balancing competing priorities
  • Experience in a high-performance, collaborative, constructive peer group
  • Experience in a complex work environment
