JOB OVERVIEW Senior Housing Associate

Reporting to the Director of HousingCLT, the Senior Housing Associate is responsible for maintaining extensive phone contact and support for HousingCLT property providers and tenant-applicants. The Senior Housing Associate is to remain in close contact with HousingCLT referral agencies, and referred households, identifying housing opportunities and expediting housing applications and payments, and minimizing vacancies in rental properties that housing providers have offered to HousingCLT.

To excel at this position, the Senior Housing Associate must have a positive attitude, collaborate with partners to overcome barriers to efficient tenant application and approval processes, work closely with peers and members of management, and remain committed to Socialserve's mission, vision, and core values.

Job Tasks

Responsibilities include but are not limited to staying abreast of Socialserve's and HousingCLT's offerings; constant interaction with property providers, service providers and referred households; and maintaining substantial knowledge of housing application requirements, screening criteria, and subsidy approval processes.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain basic knowledge of Socialserve's service areas and a thorough knowledge of HousingCLT's mechanisms for housing provider and tenant support.
  • Provide quality customer service using active listening skills and effective written and verbal communication.
  • Maintain thorough understanding of housing application requirements and subsidy approval processes to assist tenants in quickly assembling all necessary documentation and meeting subsidy approval requirements.
  • Assist tenants in determining eligibility for consideration under Fair Housing Laws, and in accessing any financial resources needed to deliver application fees and deposits in a timely manner;
  • Maintain respectful, professional working relationships with property providers, services providers, tenants, peers, and members of management alike to ensure effective and consistent communication and productivity.
  • Demonstrate productive time management skills and be able to manage multiple tasks at once.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings and contribute positively to the community atmosphere.
  • Properly handle issues resulting in application and approval delays to ensure rapid resolution.

  • At least two years of experience in assisting households in securing housing required;
  • Undergraduate degree preferred;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) required;
  • Experience with HMIS, Emergency Solutions Grants, the Rapid Rehousing Program highly desired;
  • Familiarity with Charlotte-area housing resources and subsidy programs;
  • Basic familiarity with fair housing and landlord-tenant laws;
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills;
  • Effective time-management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks;
  • Detail-oriented;
  • Can work independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to work with people with diverse backgrounds;
  • Persuasive and empathetic communicator who can facilitate removal of barriers to securing housing;
  • Committed to the goals of HousingCLT and the mission, vision, and core values of Socialserve.


Senior Housing Associate is a full-time salaried, position that is expected to complete 40 hours of work per week. Currently, remote work is allowed: however, employees will be required to attend in-person training and may be required to return to the office once the pandemic ends. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday 9am-5pm.

COVID-19 considerations: Our HousingCLT staff is currently working remotely. Training of new staff occurs in our office. Unvaccinated staff must wear a mask in meetings and when away from their desks. Once trained, staff currently may be allowed to work remotely at the discretion of their supervisor. Most interaction via phone, email and video conference.
